5 Reasons A Haircut Can Change Your Life

"A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life".
-Coco Chanel

I know it's not exactly fair to generalize the behavior of all females when it comes to cutting their hair but nonetheless, this quote has really been true to me. I've kept my hair long for two years after I've decided to chop it real short. Some would say that this is a "post break-up haircut" but that's not the real deal. Partly, I guess? But my thoughts at that time was I've become really bored that I felt the need to change my hair-do and transform it into something that could really make me feel good about myself. And I'm also the type of person who impulsively cut my hair when in a state of emotional turmoil.

Long hair days with my cousin
The aftermath
After 3 months of keeping it short, I've listed down the effects of it to myself. I've also asked my friend's (Herschel & Paige) testimonials regarding this.

1. It may change your view of yourself and others
A woman's appearance is something which we can exercise absolute control. After my relationship had ended, I woke up one morning and suddenly felt the desire to make a change from something that I've been accustomed to in an effort to symbolically start fresh and change the way I present myself. And after that haircut, I look and feel more sophisticated than I ever was.

2. You feel tougher
After chopping my hair from almost waist-length to shoulder-length, I've felt this strong feeling of much needed liberation. Before, some of my friends are asking me as to why I am so passive about everything. But then I've learned to become reactive. I've realized that I won't let someone walk over me, never again. Gone are those days that I was a cry baby.

3. It gives you self-confidence
Most importantly, I feel good about myself. I tend to see life in a positive light even when some things aren't going so well. I have thought for a minute that my chopped off hair is a representation of the shackles that keep pulling me down. And by the time I had cut it off, I felt free.

4. You feel empowered
It feels like I can do everything. Getting a new look can really be empowering and can boost morale and help a woman feel better about things in general. This is probably not a matter of superficiality, but of self-confidence and self-importance.

5. You're carefree and less conscious
Less fixing, less brushing and refreshing. That's what a short hair can do to you. I don't need to tie it up to prevent it from draping over my face.
